Chapter 16 (39 Minutes) We Take a Zebra to Vegas
The Lotus Hotel is a reference or allusion to the lotus eaters in The Odyssey by Homer. The Odyssey is an epic poem written about the king of Ithaca named Odysseus. He fights a TEN YEAR battle of Troy! Many of you may be familiar with the story of how he was finally able to win the war...the Trojan horse. After the battle he was ready to go home. Along the way he landed on an island of friendly people called the "Lotus eaters". The friendly people gave his men lotus berries to eat and much to his surprise his men forgot all about going home. They wanted to stay and eat the wonderful fruit forever. Oddyous was more than anxious to get home so he grabbed his men and threw them on his ship. He tied the angry men down and forced the others to row as fast as they could away from the island of the magical fruit.
